Structural Steel Protection

Protective Coatings & Passive Fire Protection

Project Details

Picasso Protective Coatings & Surface Repair Specialists, working alongside Mobiblast, completed the transformation of heavily weathered and corroded structural steelwork into a durable, fully protected and fire-resistant system. The project combined controlled containment, specialist abrasive blasting, protective coatings and intumescent fire protection, with all works completed to the required specification.

Due to the condition of the existing steelwork, extensive surface preparation was required before the new coating system could be applied. The structure was fully enclosed using Monarflex sheeting to control dust and debris and minimise disruption to neighbouring properties. Working with Mobiblast, the steelwork was then abrasive blasted to the specified preparation standard, removing corrosion, weathered coatings and surface contamination while creating the profile required for reliable coating adhesion.

Following preparation, Picasso applied the specified protective coating and intumescent fire protection system in accordance with the manufacturer’s requirements. The completed system provides long-term corrosion protection, the specified passive fire protection and fire resistance rating, and a durable, professional finish designed to extend the service life of the structural steelwork. The project highlights the importance of specialist surface preparation and correct coating application in achieving reliable long-term protection.
